Five

From chair to door
counting footsteps,
I focus on sounds,
tap, slide, tap, tap, slide
my lifepath number five,
Have I stepped
somewhat offside?

Funny, how
--akin to a conjurer’s coin--
number five recurs
with caveats and outbreaks
of coyote calls, cricket chirps
marring the head in my heart
or the heart in my head.
