Poem: As the river rises [170.9]
As the river rises
As the river rises
families glide by on two wheels,
earphones clasped to nodding heads
while men on the bank skip stones
across cold water.
Waves of rapids, a gull, a crow,
spray and then a sprinkle from heaven.
Grey laden skies see how
streams rise. The river
rises with them.
Over the sounds of the rapids
a child in arms waves hi,
all other intrusions still drowned out.
Another rock is thrown and a muffled plunk
greets the shore.
Wings flap over where the water passes.
Warm drops join the cold ice melt.
And streams shall rise
as the river rises.
Ah... NaPoWriMo is upon us! That means desperately writing something every day. This is based on images while sitting on a park bench along the Clark Fork river. There is no particular meaning nor message. Just a snapshot of a moment in time.
