An Ordinary Man (for David)

There is something soothing
about an ordinary man that is happy,
though rock stars and gurus should be blissful.
On sunny soccer Saturdays my husband
basks and purrs in his chair
while the grandkids gambole over him.
We both got lucky the second-time around.
At night, we watch Antiques Road Show,
then have fitful dreams about the flaws and futures
of our adult sons.
Sometimes when we're lying in bed I look over and think,
"I am so lucky."
Then he starts snoring in that snorty way, and I think,
"Well, that's annoying. But I'm still lucky."
