For Beltane

INVOCATION

My pots are cauldrons
the oven a hearth.
To be a deep foodie demands
practice, patience, presence.
Salty, sweet, bitter, sour
and queen umami.
After the first taste
close your eyes
grow silent
let magick begin.

Water----Appetizer

Beet juice, vodka
shaken with ice
salt, pepper
fennel seed
a beetini's very nice.


Fire----Entree

Wild asparagus if you can find,
organic or even Wal-Mart's will do.
blast the oven to 425
spritz with oil and you're through.


Earth---Side

Peeled and grated gingerroot
salt, vinegar,sugar in a pot
stirred and cooked together
pink, pickled ginger is what you've got.

Air---Dessert

A couple of cups
of rose petal water
add yeast, bread flour, and salt.
Rose petal bread is getting hotter.

The earth, the air, the fire, the water
return, return, return, return.
