Drop by drop the snow pack dies, watering the arid lands below. |
The May 20, 2013 prompt for "Blogging Circle of Friends Prompt Forum" is "Blog about the name you wish you'd been given." Neva is the first name my parents gave me. I was named after one of my father's sisters. I never knew my Aunt Neva because she drowned before I was born. Neva is Spanish for Snow. I don't know of any other meaning to the name. I don't know why my father's sister was named Neva because, as far as I know, my father's family was Scotch-Irish and English. Florence is my middle name and it was also the middle name of my grandmother (my mother's mother). Florence is Latin for Prosperous. My grandmother was of German descent. I am Scotch-Irish, English, and German. I don't know who Grandma was named after. Prosperous Snow is a combination of the meanings of my middle and first name. What name would I choose? Snow is Neva and Neva is Snow. Prosperous is Florence and Florence is Prosperous. I like the combination of Spanish and Latin, so why would I want any other name. What name would I choose? I have chosen to use Prosperous Snow; I am Neva Florence and I am Prosperous Snow. Thought of the Day: "Proper names are poetry in the raw. Like all poetry they are untranslatable." ~W.H. Auden |
