The May 21, 2013 prompt for "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS" is When do you find it easiest to write? Do you write first thing in the morning, late at night, or somewhere in between? It's easiest to write when the words flow from my keyboard like pouring coffee from a carafe into my favorite cup. When do I find it easiest to write? Sometimes it's easiest for me to write of a morning and sometimes late at night. If I can't sleep then I write until I get so tired that I'm almost falling asleep at the keyboard. Sometimes I write during the heat of the day when going outside is excruciatingly difficult. Sometimes I write when I have dishes to wash or floors to mop because the words will not wait and I'm afraid they will flow down the drain with the dirty water. Sometimes I write when the words themselves are painful because I have to metaphorically open a vein to before the words will flow. It isn't always easy to write because writing is an obsession consuming the poet; writing is opening my veins to the world and bleeding across the pages. Food for thought about writing: “There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed.” - Ernest Hemingway |
