Vore
(A Band gets by their instruments while a Singer picks up a microphone. Beat begins to play.)

“War! Huo! Yeah! What is it good for?

Absolutely-”

(Guy in funny robes shows up, and chatters quickly.)

“Wait? You mean we aren’t here to sing?”

(Funny Robes chatters again.)

“But the Job Description said that she wanted musicians to help sooth her digestion.”

(Funny Robes chatters more.)

“What are you talking about? Having us for dinner? You must be out of your-”

(A large door opens, and out comes a giant woman.)

“I was wondering when you’d show up.”

(She licks her lips as the band members start running, and she chases after them.)

If you’ve managed to get the implied implications of the preceding Mini Story, this Article is about Vore. What is Vore; you ask. It comes from the Latin word vorare, which means: to devour, or to eat. If you’ve just had breakfast, lunch, dinner, supper, brunch, a snack, or any other such thing, you’ve done vore. Of course, in stories, vore tends to mean a little more than just eating a meal or a snack.

This is a trend that tends to pop up in Fantasy, Sci-Fi, and Creature Horror stories; in that there is a creature that goes around and eats people. The Hero is forced to find a way to kill the creature, or escape from its grasps. Of course, things don’t always turn out that way.

Now, there are several different types of Vore; Oral, Anal, Breast, and Genital forms are among the most common forms, and there are some differences within them, such as Fatal Vore, Safe Vore, and a few others.

First up, there are some things to be cleared; Vore is a Predator-Prey relationship, in which the Predator will “eat” the Prey, in one way or another. In many instances, the Prey is broken down, and becomes nothing more than something for the Predator; ie fat, or some sort of genetic material. In other instances, the Prey will survive, Whole and Intact, or Reformed with a new body, or through Merging with the Predator. It all depends on the author.

Oral Vore is the most common form depicted; The Predator ingests the Prey through its mouth. There are two forms of this; Hard and Soft. In Hard Vore, the Prey is torn to pieces, like when a lion eats a gazelle. In this case, the Prey dies, but could be reformed via Flash Cloning, or some such thing. Then there’s Soft Vore, in which the Prey is swallowed, whole and alive. In a Fatal scenario, the Prey is digested. In a Non-Fatal scenario, the Prey goes through the Digestive System, stomach, intestines, and comes out the anus. In a Reforming scenario, the Prey’s old body dies, and is broken down by the Predator’s stomach acids, but the Prey will be Cloned, or some such thing, being granted a fresh new body. In a Merging scenario, the Prey’s consciousness will merge with that of the Predator, while the Prey’s body is broken down. These Scenarios are common in all forms of Vore.

A second form is known as Anal Vore. In this scenario, the Prey is ingested through the anus, and is taken to the stomach in this manner. Typically, the Prey is broken down into nutrients for the Predator, though Merging in not unheard of, along with the other Scenarios.

A third form is called Breast Vore. Typically, this occurs with large breasted females being the Predator, though males are used on rare occasions. Prey is ingested and is normally turned into milk.

A forth form is known as Genital vore, though it is more commonly called Cock Vore with Male Predators, and Unbirth with Female Predators. In either case, prey is ingested by the genitals, and is typically broken down into genetic material, though in the case of Unbirth, the prey can be reformed in the likeness of the predator.

There are other forms of Vore, which are named after the body part used to ingest Prey; Navel/Belly, Tail (non-human predators), Hair (especially long hair), Pouch (like with kangaroos), even Pants and just plain Absorbing (like in the manner of a white-blood cell.)

There are other things that can categorize the type of vore that is written/drawn about.

Lethal Vore: Prey will die during the process.

Non-Lethal Vore: Prey will survive. Sometimes it’s called Safe Vore, especially if the Prey is just being held in a certain location, like the stomach, to be let out at a later time, whole, intact, and of course, alive.

Cloning: Essentially, the Prey will get a new body in their Original form, be it by the use of Science or Magic, or a Natural Force, and will have all the memories of their previous body. It isn’t completely clear if this falls into the Lethal or Non-Lethal category, as the old body does die, but the person will survive in the new body.

Reforming: The prey will get a new body, typically in the Predator’s form. Sometimes they will have their old memories, other times they will be a blank slate.

Merge: Mind and memories of the Prey meld with those of the Predator. Typically the Predator will be in control, but sometimes the mind of the Prey is strong enough to overwhelm the Predator. Other times, their personalities will merge. In some cases, the Predator will take on physical attributes of the Prey.

Hard Vore: Prey is torn to pieces before/during ingestion; typically during Oral vore. With the exception of Cloning or Reforming, this is often Lethal.

Soft Vore: Prey is whole, intact, and alive during ingestion. Can be Lethal or Non-Lethal. Occurs with most forms of Vore.

Cooking: Prey is the meat item in a “normal” meal. The Prey may be served with little to no alterations, like a hotdog, stuffed, like a Thanksgiving turkey with stuffing, cut up, like most chicken meat from Subway restaurants, or ground up, like hamburger. Any form of preparation could be used, from raw, like sushi, to frying, deep frying, grilling, roasting, barbequing, basting, and all the rest.

Willing Vore: The Prey either wants to be eaten, or doesn’t mind it.

Unwilling Vore: The Prey doesn’t want to get eaten, and will attempt to escape/struggle.

Size Relationship

Macro/micro Vore: Predator is much larger than the Prey, usually being ten or so times the size. Normally nothing is visible of the Prey; minimal/no bulges or definitive shapes.

Same-Size Vore: Predator is around the same size as the Prey, within a foot or so. A distinctive bulge of the Prey can be made out.

Micro/macro Vore: Predator is much smaller than the Prey, often being ten or so times smaller. Bulge of Prey is huge when compared to the Predator.

Now, Vore tends to pop up in mainly Fantasy and Sci-Fi stories, though it happens quite often in that genre of Horror known as Creature Horror. Now, in case you don’t know what vore is, go buy/rent/borrow a movie called Jurassic Park, and skip to the scene where the lawyer runs to the outhouse. What happens afterwards is typically what happens; Predator grabs Prey, and devours it.

With stories that have animal-type predators, things tend to be very basic; Predator eats because it’s hungry. Of course, some Predators might use techniques that tease/torture the Prey. For an example of Teasing, watch a cat the next time you see it catch a mouse; it rarely kills the mouse right away. It will release it, catch it, bring it towards itself, then let it go and catch it again, until the mouse is unable to run away, before the cat finally gives it a killing bite. As for a Torture example, well, most of us have pulled the legs and wings off of flies and the like. In either case, the end result leaves the Prey unable to fight back or flee to safety. Of course, when the Predator has human-esque intelligence, another method of “breaking” Prey can be used, the Sexual method. In this case, the Predator engages in sexual activity with the Prey, in one manner or another, until the Prey tires to the point they can’t resist, or is overwhelmed by the sensations.

Now, some have a few questions: Is Vore Cannibalism, and Is Vore Murder? First off; Cannibalism is the act of eating a member of the same species as oneself. However, in most Vore Stories, the Predator is of a different species/subspecies than the Prey. In instances where the Predator and Prey are the same species, it could be called cannibalism, though the Prey tends to be smaller (Macro/micro), or the Predator can stretch their mouth in a manner akin to a snake (Swallower), or they can shrink their prey (Shrink). Next; Murder is the unlawful termination of another life, mainly human-on-human. Thing is, since most Vore stories take place in alternative/parallel worlds, the Laws might have some differences.

Now, to answer your questions; All Cannibalism is Vore, but not all Vore is Cannibalism. Also, Vore can be Murder, if the life as taken in an unlawful manner; but, while you might hunt down and kill a tiger that’s a maneater, you can’t charge it with murder, and since, as stated earlier, most stories take on Alternative worlds, or in the Future, when the human race has been genetically modified and/or met up with Aliens, or a Hidden civilization, the Laws could be different.

Now, in vore-type stories, an explanation is given that makes vore possible; aliens have the ability, select humans have been genetically modified to control population number in an overpopulated world, animals have been genetically modified to be hominid, but the Predator-Prey relationship wasn’t taken out of the equation, person is equivalent to the size of a mouse, and is seen as food to a number of “large” animals, one is in a land full of “giants” or other creatures of Fantasy, like dragons, or they’ve been sent back to the Age of the Dinosaurs, or any other such explanation.

Then there’s the Legality of Vore in the story; might be Completely Legal, and Acceptable, though one is expected to say “excuse me” after any belching, with most ignoring any bulge/squirming from struggling Prey, except to admire the size/vitality of the Prey or to step away a few paces to not be the second one added to the “gut”. It might only be Legal in certain situations, i.e. self- defense, defense-of-another, or if there’s no other options for food. Finally, it might be completely Illegal, with no one allowed to do it, but there’s that Underground Movement trying to bring it to the Surface.

Another thing to think about is how the Prey reacts to being eaten. Some can’t wait to be eaten, as they see as some sort of High Honor. There are those who treat it like most treat death and taxes, a necessary nuisance. Others are afraid, but don’t resist being eaten. Finally, there are those who resist, and will fight/run away to prevent it from happening.

Now, one must consider the types of stories that vore shows up in. The most obvious ones involve Creature Horror. As mentioned in my previous newsletter, creatures have their instincts, including the need to feed. More often than not, it’s a survival-type story. In Future stories, severe overpopulation is controlled by selected modified humans that eat the “extra” population, similar to the Sandmen of Logan’s Run, who kill those over a certain age. In Alien Invasion stories, a race of aliens shows up, and they have a liking for human flesh. In Mutation stories, something has mutated part of the population, or even the animals, causing them to have a bigger appetite at any rate. Alternative World Travel stories are similar to Alien Invasion stories, only you’re on their turf, and not home. Other things depend on the author.

There’s also the themes of the stories to think about. In an Erotica-type story, vore is used in a sexual way, be it to enhance the act, or the provide pleasure for the Predator and/or Prey, though if the Prey’s getting pleasured, you’d hope s/he’s going to get a second chance, or more *Wink* . In an Everyday-type story, odds are that Predators might be friends with those classified as Prey, and vore’s just a side thing. War- You certainly don’t want to be a PoW in this story, or even one of the lower ranks.

These are but some of the basics when it comes to Vore. For more, you’ll have to find out for yourself. Until next time, make sure to wash a few parts of your body with extract of ghost chili peppers- few, if any, creatures can handle the heat, but beware of those that enjoy it. Have fun, and don’t get eaten.
