Prosperous Snow Where the Wild Things Live
The September 18, 2013 prompt for "Blogging Circle of Friends Prompt ForumOpen in new Window. is
Do you know the meaning of your name, and why your parents chose it? Do you think it suits you? What about your childrens names?

Am I experiencing déjà vu all over again? I remember encountering and responding to a similar prompt sometime in the past, but I am not complaining because this gives me a chance to look at this from a new perspective. It also gives me a chance to complicate or uncomplicate the issues of the meaning of my last name.

Do I know the meaning of my name? Two yeses and a no. I know the meaning of my first and middle names, but I am unsure about the meaning of my last name. My first name is Neva, which means Snow. My middle name is Florence and it means Prosperous. Now I come to my last name Darbe, which is the complicated part and the meaning become somewhat foggy. I have heard several different meanings for this name, which is a derivative of the name Darby.

I once heard it meant Where the Wild Things Live. I was also told that it mean Bum, in this case, referring to a vagrant or tramp. My latest research informs me that it is derived from the old Norse words "djur", meaning deer, and "byr", which is defined as "farm or settlement".1 Therefore the meaning of my full name is one of the following:

Snow Prosperous Where the Wild Things Live
Snow Prosperous Bum
Snow Prosperous Deer Farm
Snow Prosperous Deer Settlement

Thought of the Day: “Jason scratched his head. "You named him Festus? You know that in Latin, ‘festus’ means ‘happy’? You want us to ride off to save the world on Happy the Dragon?” - Rick Riordan, The Lost Hero
