My October Writing Sprint Experience
I am participating in the "October Novel Prep ChallengeOpen in new Window. and have completed three writing sprints using the website http://writeordie.com/. In the first sprint, "Invalid EntryOpen in new Window., completed on October 8, I wrote 647 words. In the second sprint, "Invalid EntryOpen in new Window., completed on October 16, I wrote 327 words. In the third spring, "Invalid EntryOpen in new Window., completed October 22, I wrote 349 words. The total word count for those three exercises is 1,323 and the average word count is 441.

The reason for the huge difference among the three counts is the way I approached the first exercise. I wrote without thinking and without using paragraphs. I also backspaced less when I misspelled or mistyped a word. I will not know what my average work count is until I complete the next sprint exercise in "Invalid EntryOpen in new Window. on or before October 29, but I suspect my average word count for 15 minutes of writing will be around 500 words.

If my average word count for 15 minutes of writing is 500 words and I need to write, at least, 1,667 words a day to complete 50,000 words by November 30. I have to set aside four 15 minute writing sessions each day to complete the "Midnight in SuburbiaOpen in new Window. by November 30, 2013. The next issue is when to write, I will have to move out of this house around November 25 so during this time I have to continue packing up or giving away the stuff I have in the house. I can write easier in the morning and in the evening; therefore, I think I will schedule 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in the evening. Each of these will be divided into 15 minute intervals.

I just added another 421 words to my total writing sprint word count. I now have a total word count of 1,744 with an average of 436. I used the software on the Write or Die website to compose today's entry, http://poet999writingthoughts.blogspot.com/2013/10/determining-my-average-word-c..., in Poet 999's Thoughts about Writing and Other Stuff.
