Footprints in the Snow

There are footprints in the snow
There are voices in the air
It's been so long since I've heard that sound
I'd not noticed they were no longer there

For years I stood on this precipice
Crumbling and huddled against the wind
Fighting against the cold and ice
That threatened to get in

But as time went on I slowly gave in
And forgot human warmth and touch
I let the snow and ice claim me
They wanted me so much

Their loving touch surrounded me
And gave me strength against the storm
Their beauty and silence comforts me
Their embrace and love keeps me warm

And just as I'd forgotten
The touch of human hands
They come to see my beauty
And marvel that I stand

I no longer need their presence
They left me long ago
Without them, I found a new love.
Yet there are footprints in the snow.
