Sharon looked again at the brochure. The Fancy Resort looked like a building from one of the fantasy epics she read as a girl. Perhaps one of the castles mentioned in the pages of the Belgariad. The fantasy convention had been booked at this place for more than a year. Tucking the small brochure into a jacket pocket, she picked up the bag containing her own costume. For months she meticulously crafted each piece of fabric, with time snatched from work and her studies . I wonder what other figures from fantasy I'll see in here. Sharon thought as she walked through the open doors . The main hallway resembled one from Lord of the Rings. Tapestries hung from the balustrades, shields bearing heraldic devices adorned the walls. Long wooden tables, resplendent with a mediaeval type feast lay on shining platters. Huge carafes of wine were spread amongst the plates of food. Sharon smiled as she scanned the teeming crowds . She could see armour glinting under the light of the lamps. Knights, Princesses and Faeries walked through the room, stopping at various booths, perusing the wares on display. Elves, sorceresses and magicians talked with each other. She looked at her watch and swore. The Cosplay contest would begin soon and she hadn't even changed into her costume yet. Dressed as Arwen from the Lord of the Rings trilogy at least she wouldn't look out of place here at all. Surrounded by the trappings from ancient castles and times long gone, in the company of dwarves, Elves, Faeries and the odd Orc or Goblin, Sharon found herself in a fantasy world. All she had to do was transform herself from a plain everyday shop worker into an ethereal being from a fantasy realm. Cradled within a fancy resort that resembled a castle. |
