That Humble Shamrock

The shamrock
Poised and delicate
Represents a relationship
Of 63 years of marriage

Planted as a gift
Given with love
It endured beyond
The marriage’s years.

Though my grandfather has died
That little shamrock
Has flourished
Like my grandmother
It endured.

Though both of them are gone now
That little shamrock
Holds its own
Upon the window sill

Memories strong and enduring
Love blossomed
Grew and expanded
Each family member
Holds a little part

Of that humble shamrock.
