Theses are my thoughts and ramblings as I forge my way through this thing they call life. |
Today's blogs... Blog City – Day 93 – June 4 Prompt: Flip Flops or bare feet? What does summer look like in your world? First of all, I hate flip flops or any kind of sandal that goes between my toes. It does not feel good to me, besides it is not good for your feet. Bare feet. I love bare feet, but I find as I age I am more cautious of stepping on things that could really hurt. As a child I would maneuver over a gravel driveway or road slow and steady, but not so much now. Now even a prickly weed is not my friend. Wimp. Yes, I know. So what do I wear instead? Around the house and down to the mailbox sans husband, I will wear my baby blue Crocs. I have even done neighbourhood walks in those suckers, but I would not recommend it - they don't have the best support. When I do out further into public, or anywhere with my husband beyond our yard, I wear sandals on those lovely hot days. I will wear my runners as well - mainly to work, as you never know when some kid will want to tromp on your poor toes. 30 Day Blogging Challenge June 4, 2014 30DBC Prompt: Do you think playing violent video games and watching violent movies makes people more violent in real life? Were you allowed to partake in these activities as a child? If you have children, did/do you let them have violent media? I think playing violent video games and watching violent movies makes people desensitized to the impact of violence overall. I don't believe people who enjoy those games will become or are already violent - it is an outlet for them. But if they start too young there could be some nasty consequences. Social acceptance of violent acts occurs and no one steps up to help. I was not allowed to partake in those activities as a child - and living in northern Ontario at the time, there was not much out there - but then again I could have been sheltered from it. My imagination was my friend and TV was only a few stations with certain shows on at only certain times. I remember my cousin, he is only 23 now (half my age), but when he watched the cartoon for Batman as a little kid of four, he would get hitting things more so my aunt banned the show from his viewing - at least until he could understand that was not appropriate behaviour. I do not have any children of my own, but I would be inclined to curtail its intrusion into my child's life. I find in schools where I supply teach some children are allowed to watch anything and it comes out in behaviour. Some children are growing up to young. Their innocence is being stolen from them. Whatever we take into ourselves, be it visual, auditory or kinesthetic, it becomes a part of us. We need to protect ourselves and our children from the bombardment of unnecessary violent things and that includes things of a sexual nature as well. I find innocence is lost the more we expose children to these things too soon. Welcome To My Reality – Week Twenty – Four 6. If you could have a do-over in life, what would you do-over and why? If I had a do over in life I would be inclined to have gone to Teacher's College after finishing university and maybe done some travelling where I could teach and learn in a variety of places before returning to Canada with my experiences. I find at the age I am now, I wonder if I will ever get my own classroom. So many young teachers are coming up and getting positions. Am I considered too old? I don't think so. Besides, unlike the young teachers, I won't be taking maternity leaves. 7. If you were given a magic wand and you could change anything you want, what would you change and why? This magic wand would cure me of my allergies and lethargy giving me energy and drive to take on the challenges before me. Right now my day has just started and I already want to go back to sleep because I got up too early. Another hour would be lovely. |
