Write a short story or poem that includes the following words: reindeer, fly, trouble, red, green, tree, ribbon, and tinsel. Remember the theme of Christmas in July. Please highlight the words in some way so that the judges can make sure they were included without having to search them out. We were at the North Pole, in Lake George, NY. Family vacation for the month of July. It might have been fifty-some years ago, but I remember seeing those reindeer fly! Santa and his sleigh, all shiny and red, came in for a landing; I was standing right there! I got into trouble; I'd inched in too close- but it didn't matter, I didn't care! I had my proof; I'd seen them fly. It no longer mattered what my brother said. I'd believe in St. Nick the rest of my life: for I saw them fly (and not just in my head!) That summer we had a July Christmas; decorated green trees with be-ribboned candy canes, I got a kitten that I named Tinsel, and we went for a ride on both Santa Trains. No one will ever convince me otherwise although logic decrees that reindeer can't fly. I can still remember it clear. as. day. And Santa still comes; doesn't pass me by. Christmas magic shows up every year and lots of things I do 'just because.' whether tis December, July or May I believe it... everyday: just beclause! |
