Say Something-Day1

Say Something by A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera

A little background on this song, starts when the song was originally released as a solo single from A Great Big World band member Ian Axel's album, This is The New Year in 2011. Originally, this song as a solo did not attract much attention until Christina came along and did a recording as a duo which put the song on the charts. Following its usage on American reality TV show So You Think You Can Dance, the song attracted the attention of Christina who wanted to perform it with A Great Big World as a duo. Quickly, after this a re-recorded version of "Say Something" was released with Christina on November 4, 2013.

Composed by Ian Axel, Chad Vaccarino, and Mike Campbell, "Say Something" is a slow-temp indie pop piano ballad which talks about a break up. The lover is implored to make a statement that could potentially reverse plans, with the singers expressing humility, sadness, and regret. In the single version with Christina, she plays a ghost of the lover to whom the song is addressed as she traces the steps of the lead vocal. The song has been critically praised for its powerful lyrics, the emotional composition, and Christina's vocal delivery.

I remember listening to this song last year in 2014 about a month before I broke up with my boyfriend, this song was playing constantly in my head and I would hear it playing everywhere. After I broke up with my boyfriend I realized that my soul was crying out with similar emotions which are conveyed in this song and I also feel they are much more powerful with the video. We basically were drifting apart and our relationship turned into a damaging situation instead of a loving one, my soul let him go first before I would even admit to myself that it was over. This song helped me to connect with the sadness, loneliness, and helplessness I was feeling about our relationship. When I broke things off it felt like a burden was lifted off my shoulders and I was able to start healing myself. My favourite part about this song is that it is so emotional that words do not do justice to describe it and for those that feel the emotion deeply will understand what I mean. One of the hardest things is breaking up with someone you still love because the relationship has become toxic for both of you.

All the words flow well together and the music that is being played is perfect for the emotions being expressed. This is one of the most emotional songs I have heard. Here are the lyics to the song.

Say something, I'm giving up on you

I'll be the one, if you want me to

Anywhere I would've followed you

Say something, I'm giving up on you

And I am feeling so small

It was over my head

I know nothing at all

And I will stumble & fall

I'm still learning to love

Just starting to crawl

Say something, I'm giving up on you

I'm sorry that I couldn't get to you

Anywhere I would've followed you

Say something, I'm giving up on you

And I will swallow my pride

You're the one that I love

And I'm saying goodbye

Say something, I'm giving up on you

And I'm sorry that I couldn't get to you

And anywhere I would've followed you (Ooh-oh)

Say something, I'm giving up on you

Say something, I'm giving up on you

Say something...
