Daylight Savings Time
My mind in a foggy rhyme
Attempts to make sense
Out of the noise
And activities of morning.

A neighbor's dog barks
The birds sing in the palm trees
A paramedic emergency vehicle
Is parked across the street
A police car drives by
A school bus stops in front of the apartment building.

Because of daylight savings time
My mind is in a fog.

It's 9:43 pm
do you know where your muse is?
Mine is wide awake!

I wanted to sleep half the day,
but now when it's almost time to go to bed
I'm awake.

Is it daylight savings time?
Is it insomnia?

On this beautiful Tuesday morning
the birds are singing,
the dogs are barking,
the sky is a cloudless blue,
and the scent of spring is in the air.

On this warm Tuesday morning
the temperature is 64 degrees
and rising,
my door is open
so that I can hear the birds
while watching my neighbors walking.
