"Rob. Have you seen Beaver?" Jude Ward asked her husband. It was dinnertime and the Beaver was late. "No. I just had some time to read the paper. This Trump character is really shaking things up." Rob adjusted his pipe and puffed. "I'll call his friend's house .. Jim." Mr. Ward dialed. Just as the Beaver ran in, "Hey! I have a new friend!" Rob put the phone on it's receiver, "Your late for dinner." "Oh? I.. was playing with Sarah." Beaver smiled and Sarah stepped forward. She was wearing a yellow dress and was had middle eastern features. Rod leaned forward on his chair and took his pipe out of his mouth, "Sarah are you new to the neighborhood?" Sarah gave a tooth smile and a nod, "I am Syrian. My family are refugees from the civil war in my country." "Oh? Well, please have some dinner with us." Rob smiled. They all sat at the dining room table and Rob said grace. Sarah bowed her head, "I cannot eat with infidels." She ran from the house. Beaver made a confused expression, "What is an infidel?" Rob rubbed Beaver's head, "Well, that's us. You see Beaver some people cannot tolerate people of other faiths and they call them infidels." "Gosh. I was having a lot of fun with Sarah. Do you think I can play with her again?" Beaver looked confused. "Well, probably not." Jude interrupted with a plate of Pierogies. "You see Beaver were Jews and the Syrians hate us." Jude continued. Beaver scratched his head, "But, she kissed me." Rob laughed, "You weren't wearing your beanie." "Oh? I only wear that at Temple." Beaver poked at his food. "Don't sulk dear." Jude poured some sauce over his pasta. "Gosh. The Christians aren't mad at me." Beaver poked some more. "Now you know why. They're taught to forgive." Rob rubbed Beaver's head and they both smiled. 999 V |
