Family Gatherings
Prompt: Joy asked about we shouldn't say at family gatherings to avoid problems.
My past experience, my daughter-in-law's father told his sister-in-law he didn't like her ford car. They got in a fight. When I was a kid, my Dad's family argued whose daughter was the prettiest. I got picked on because Mom had me all dressed up when I was five and my cousins insulted me and I started crying. I got called a bawl baby. My mother hit the ceiling. My Dad says his brother never does anything which didn't go well. My cousin had a controlled substance in his room and it was the talk of the family party. The same cousin had an intimate moment with his girlfriend and Grandma walked on them and it was the talk of the next family gathering. Too personal.
What not to say? No off color jokes, no religion talk, don't talk about what your kids do wrong when it is too personal. Don't say the food tastes awful. Not a good idea. Don't change the CD Player music because your cousin will hit the ceiling. Just play NICE and smile a lot!
