More Than a Hag
Prompt: Fun Fact Friday! On this day in 1647,Alse Young , a resident of Windsor Connecticut, was executed for being a witch. It was the first recorded American execution of a "witch". Nowadays , obviously this wouldn't fly , but the idea of witchcraft is still very prevalent . What's your opinion on this? I cannot imagine executing someone never mind a supposed witch . Was this woman really a threat ? What was her crime? Was she a vegan naturopath? Had she dared to cure someone with herbs? Did she not attend the local Christian church? Had her fellow citizens been afraid of her? Was she a hapless scapegoat? I do not believe in witchcraft; hocus pocus , spells, incantations, curses, conjuring, etc. It's the stuff of the superstitious and the ignorant. Fears cloud reasoning, and hysteria reigns. Just for fun I Googled the word 'witch'. Oh, the world wide Web is vast and unique! Apparently , there are two species of fish known as the 'witch fish'; a Pacific flat fish also known by the unlikely moniker lefteye flounder , and the European flat fish nicknamed the righteye flounder. What no cross-eyed or bulging eye flounder ?? The Royal Navy, I'm presuming of the British persuasion, has made it a practice to christen their ships with the witch name; HMS Witch and HMS Waterwitch . Hmmn, I thought sailors had a reputation as a superstitious lot. Supposedly , a feminist organization exists in the U.S. W.I.T.C.H or as it proudly proclaims: Women's International Terrorist Conspiracy from Hell. No, I am not a card-carrying member. And finally, I discovered an ultralight aircraft dubbed the Greenwood Witch . Who knew a witch was more than a hag?
