“B”
I love being in the basket when we go for a walk. Emily's bike can go so fast, that when she pedals I fall over and giggle. Once at the park and settled into the swing, Emily places me tight between her legs and we swing so high I could touch the sky.
Emily's bedroom is bright pink. It matches the flower in my hat that Na na made. My dress was made by Emily herself. I think it used to be a blouse that hung on the shelf. I love our room and when it is dark Emily's Mum turns on the light that makes shadows of stars dance on the wall.
“B”, guess what? Mommy and Daddy are moving. We have to leave our house. Don't worry B I won't forget you here. You can ride in the car with me. I know your scared but we have to be big and brave.”
It was easy for her to say, I was afraid I would end up in a box or even worse left behind in a big empty house.
I was as brave as I could be. Emily needed me, so I had to be strong. The drive was so so long. We both grew tired and napped for a bit. It was late late at night when we arrived and Emily's Mum took her up in her arms but i fell on the floor of the car. The door slammed shut and I couldn't scream. I was so afraid to be left alone in such a strange place. I wanted the night light with the stars, but when I looked out the window there were stars! In the sky way up high I could see them twinkle and they shined so bright it didn't feel like night. I must have fell asleep. When the morning did come they opened the door.
“Look Emily, it's B. I told you we would find her. She was sleeping in the car! Here you go love, now take care of her or she will be lost and alone.”
Emily hugged me with all her might. “Oh B I was so afraid all through the night. I cried and cried and thought you were lost. I will never let you out of my sight. Not ever again, I promise."
I wish that were true but it happened again. Poor Emily was sick and needed a hospital visit. Of course I was there! She couldn't go alone. She needed to be strong so I went along. The doctor was nice and he gave Emily a treat and it was pink with sugar. I was sticky and sweet. My nose felt like glue and between me and you I didn't like the taste of that treat. It was late in the night when we finally left for home and it was bitterly cold with a blowing wind storm.
“Quick into the car. Let's get you home and right into bed. We have to do what the doctor said.” Emily's Mum was tucking her in. That is when it happened again. I was dropped in the snow as they drove away. I couldn't cry or yell for help. I was so cold and felt my fur become wet. Now my hat was gone and my stitches were undone. I needed a doctor but nobody would come.
The very next morning when I thought there was no hope. A man picked me up and stuck me into his pocket of his coat. He asked the nurse if she had seen me before. “Oh yes that is “B”! A little bear that a girl adores. I will keep her here just in case they are looking.
I waited and waited for such a long time that I thought they had forgotten me for sure this time. Then this kind lady picked me up from the desk and tickled my nose, “You need a wash, your full of grime. When Emily comes you will be just like new. Nobody will know but me and you.”
“You have B? You really do? We will be right there. Emily loves her bear.”
That night I was settled in a warm bed and the stars were gleaming above my head. Emily kissed me again and again. I knew I was home and I knew right then that Emily loved me. So now you see that I am a friend. My name is “B".
