The Saga of Prosperous Snow Continues |
Thursday, July 7, 2016 Grandpa watched television as he sat in his white recliner news was a priority. The Wildcard Round for "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS" ! Today's winner, as chosen by Virtual Dice from all eligible entries at some point over the weekend, will receive a News MB. What's the first big news story you remember being aware of as a kid? (For reference, mine I think was John Lennon's murder, and I was five years old...but a one-sentence answer isn't a blog entry .) What was the first news story I remember? I remember fragments of several news stories, but I'm not sure about their chronological occurrence because most of them merge together at some point. I can see snatches of news stories because I'm a baby boomer. I was born in 1946, which means I'm part of the first generation in my family raised with television. I think my earliest clear memory is from 1956 when I was 9 or 10 years old. I remember seeing Elvis Presley on the Ed Sullivan Show. The news stories that stick out in my mind are from the 1960s, my first clear memory of a news story is the JFK Assassination in 1963. I know that I must have watched earlier news stories because when televisions became available to the general public Grandpa Frank purchased one. I remember the newscasts replayed the footage of the assassination on almost every broadcast. I think I remember this event because every news station replayed it on both the national and local news. I'm more inclined to remember news stories that are replayed over and over again. |
