Beneath The Crowd

Diamonds-a girl's best friend
fox fur coats with cocktails
in hand. My peeps
are mine-always for keeps.
Always there to help me
celebrate. Who needs a
reason? I 'll get the check;
My time 'n money is always free.
An abundance of prosperity.
That was then and this is now.
I have nothing left to share;
there is no fortune-
not a penny to share.
Now I am fighting more
than pride- I fight for my life;
with not one person by my side.
There are no cocktails where
I lie. The only one, the doctor
supplied. Without a friend
not one in twenty;
yet not long ago I had
more than plenty.
A revolving door of
many emotions. The hurt
of knowing I was that person.
Who will remember me now-
this way? The one that matters;
the one that will stay.
Who will be that one of twenty?
