The "Blogging Circle of Friends " prompt for Day 1444
Creative Saturday: Create something with these words: tree, organise, miniature, car, worship, gaudy, piano, cheer
Organizing Memories
I listen to the wind of memory
blowing through the garden of my thoughts
in the center grows the cottonwood tree
I played under as a child.
The physical tree is long dead
cut down and used for firewood
or plowed under to make way for
a new housing development,
but in my mind the tree still grows
its bright green leaves changing
to yellow every autumn.
As I organize my childhood memories
colored snapshots from long ago,
snapshots unyellowed
by the passage of years
I see a small wooden church
where on Sunday, Christmas, and Easter
my grandparents took me to worship.
Of all Grandpa's cars
the one that stands out
is his gray Studebaker coup,
I can't remember the year
but I think it was
a 1940 something car.
As I sift
through the photo album
of my mind,
the picture merge
into a miniature collage
of days filled with both gaudy laughter and drab cheer
accompanied by a piano playing
"Mine Eyes Have Seen The Glory"
and "Amazing Grace".
