Elements Of A Horror Story
Prompt: What are the elements of a horror story?

Fear, surprise, suspense, mystery and spoiler. I don't write horror story but these stories are written to entertain, scare or disgust people. Murder is involved and death in some form. Supernatural may also play a part. Stephen King has the monopoly on this.

I have watched horror shows over the years but I don't anymore. To me, crime stories is a horror show all it's own. I don't watch them or read horror stories. I watch "Vampire Diaries" and this is getting to be a horror story. This is the last year for this show so I may or may not finish watching it.

A horror story. Fear. Someone or a lot of people have fear. Surprise. You don't know what will happen. You are surprised when you find out. Suspense. You twirl your hair and get scared while sitting on the edge of your seat and scream like you are a victim. Mystery. Every shows has to have mystery or what if and be a puzzle. Spoiler. Someone who has read the book or seen the movie spoils it by telling you how it ends.

Other genres can have these elements but fear doesn't always apply to all genres. I was surprised that murder isn't an element of horror. When you write horror, the bad person or bad people live in your mind and I would be scared to fall asleep. They might get me. I will pass on writing horror.
