January 1st: Broken New Year's Resolution
Every year, without fail, my daughter and I will start a diet as a New Year's Resolution. On February 1st, every year she has a birthday and that's when the diet fails.
Who can have a birthday without a little party? Every party has to have food, so the plans begin, all thoughts of the diet long gone. Mexican food for Rica, chocolate for Ericka, ice cream for the little ones. Of course no one has requested this special menu except ourselves. I call it self-sabotage.
Soon the email goes out to everyone letting them know the time and place of the party. We do have great birthday parties but very little will power.
