Just what it says

The Blog City Prompt Forum prompt for February 21, 2017 is "Jacques Derrida in the Ear of the Other, writes: “Prayer works for many people; sometimes therapy works for me, but literature has really been the most reliable way for me to access emotion.”

What is your take on the quote? Do you get emotional with some of what you read or does your reading encourage you to discover different emotions for specific subjects? "

I would both agree and disagree. Lately I have become quite an emotional person. If I read something funny I truly laugh. if it has a sad ending I get misty-eyed. Although I am a 2016 Quills Nominee for a horror story I wrote I don't read a lot of horror. I've seen enough of that in real life to want to read about it. On the other prayer also evokes a lot of emotion for me. For one thing every heartbeat is a gift from God and every month that I am able to make my small income cover all the bills is also a gift. So the emotion prayer evokes is gratitude for the things God has done for me past, present.and future.

Another emotion prayer often evokes is sadness. It saddens me to think of the shame, humiliation, and terrible death that God Himself was willing to go through just because I am unable to measure up.

Another emotion prayer evokes is joy. I get to spend some time alone with my God.

I have also been in therapy for decades. it has evoked many emotions from anger to shame to remorse to mourning and everything in between.
