Trinkets in Trimeter
A gem, a pearl, a prize
Gleam bright, silver so fair
First drew my sight, then won
My eye, my heart, my care

My eye, my heart, my care,
Soft draped across my arm
Bits of bids tempt me with
Their glitter and their charm

Their glitter and their charm
A wristlet, a gold ring
And dangly earrings too
Silver and gold flanked bling.

Silver and gold flanked bling
Of color favored blue
Trifles strike my fancy
Of many charms, not few.

Of many charms, not few
My bills of green shrink slim
But my trinkets grow from
Baubles bought on a whim

Baubles bought on a whim
Perhaps I’ll stow away
My final cash remains
For Nature’s rainy day.

For Nature’s rainy day,
My eye, my heart, my care,
A gem, a pearl a prize,
Brings me such joy to wear.

…with apologies to Arthur George [1557-1625]
