Heroes:
A Blues Sonnet

You have asked me to define a hero,
You have asked me if you are a hero,
I know that you are not a zero.

Come walk with me in the morning sunshine,
Come talk with me in the morning sunshine,
Sit with me beneath a Bristlecone pine.

Let us contemplate the hero's sonnet,
Meditate upon the hero's sonnet,
And inhale the scent of a bluebonnet.

Heroes do not always carry guns,
For many heroes their tongues are their guns,
While others are bakers of buns.

True heroes are just ordinary guys,
Who volunteer rather than analyze.

Form: Blues Sonnet = 14 lines with a rhyme scheme of A A a, B B b, C C c, D D d, e e. This sonnet is descended from Afo-American music. The first two line in each stanza end with the same word while the third line rhymes with the first two line. The last stanza ends in a monorhyme like a traditional sonnet.
