I Once Knew Barbie
PROMPT: The Wildcard Round! Tell us about a toy or memento from your childhood that you still have ( or have the fondest memories of).
Ah, childhood.... I had one of those years ago. In past blogs I've mentioned Barbies. Oh, I had enough for my own cheer squad, or baseball team, or cult, or whatever. Both my grandmothers contributed to, or enhanced my collection. Both created wonderful wardrobes for my dolls. I still remember a lime green'ish fur coat. My maternal grandfather was handy with wood and paint, so he crafted a large travel case for the girls and their accoutrements. Nowadays, Barbie devotees tote gauche vinyl suitcases.
I never knew this as a child, but Barbie and I share a birth year in common. Huh, glamour/globe-trotting girl is my age... She is holding up rather well considering... Her visage does not seem marred by so much as one wrinkle. I'm not gossiping and saying she's had work done, you know, plastic surgery, but her skin is so taut. Her smile really is so plastic and unyielding. If I constantly smiled like her my cheeks would hurt. She does prefer to paint on her eyebrows like some other women though , while I have managed to retain my own, natural eyebrows of hair. Come to think of it, I can raise or lower mine via muscles not a pencil.
It must be a professional dye job 'cause Barbie doesn't sprout/sport any grey hair. She is fortunate that she never has to sit through hair cuts either. Maybe this is a blessing. After a woman matures to a certain age ,not many hair styles are considered flattering. She's blessed with the good bone structure that can flaunt any' do', even a pony tail.
Sigh.... Lucky Barbie never accumulates weight anywhere. Age has not broadened her hips, or transformed her upper arms into flapping wings. She actually boasts a waist line. Nothing sags, or droops. Cellulite is a foreign entity to her. I suppose this means she has never dieted, or counted calories, or perspired to the oldies. Wait, I doubt that she sweats.
Alas, Miss Barbie(s) and I parted company an eon ago. As I recall, a five-year old cutie with long dark hair eagerly befriended my old gang. Jessie, I do hope you enjoyed the company.
