Gems From Heaven

Sitting in her quarters with everything she could ever want and still she felt a yearning for love. Not the kind of love her Father wanted. To marry a family member of her allies repulsed her to the core. It meant a connection of family money but what about her heart.

Medora looked at herself in the rippled image on the wall while brushing her hair and felt as though she were being punished in some way. A marriage shouldn't be witnessed as a duty and surely not of such a young age as she was herself. The following day would be the meeting of the two families with dinner and the vow to marry.

Laying in her bed, Medora dreamt of her mother and how loving she was. Would she have allowed Father to toss her daughter to the wolves. That is exactly what the Macleod Family were, a pack of wolves frothing at the mouth. All a ploy to get Father's men on their side in return for an ambush. Medora felt it. In the pit of her stomach she knew her family would be blood shed shortly after the wedding.

“Good morning my Lady. I hope you had a restful night?”

“I wish it were so, but no. Far from restful. Is the King dining this morning?”

“No my Lady. He mentioned something about preparing for the feast tonight. Said he would be back in time to get things settled. He told me that he wishes for you to wear your blue gown and cape and to be sure and wear the family jewels.”

Medora turned slowly and sat on her bed. “Of course he did.”

After time passed and Medora's ladies in waiting left her alone once more, she gathered stones that her mother gave her. She placed them in a sachet and held it close under her cape. Her only hope was to pray and keep her mother close.

Entering the dining room, everyone stood up as Medora took her place at the table. She glanced at the wolf she was to marry. His grin sent shivers up her spine. It was as though he was telling her right there and then what he would do to her on their wedding night.

How could Father expect me to faithful to an animal such as he is. Why wouldn't he want me to be happy and live to my fullest.

It was during dinner that things started getting tense. The demands of the Macleod Family were greater than Father anticipated. They were to join forces against the South but it seemed that Father saw through this and knew his Family would not be justified. Both men stood and started to get heated. My Father grabbed my arm and refused to hand me over for marriage.

Then there was nothing but swords drawn and blood shed. Medora felt her Father lose his grip on her arm and fall to his death at her feet. She dropped and couldn't stop crying, calling out to her mother in despair.

Max her would have been husband grabbed her by the hair and dragged her back to her feet. “You “will” marry me with or without your Father's say. I claim you as my wife!”

“I won't marry you Max. You are filth!” Medora spat in his face leaving him to squint through the saliva. But struck Medora to the ground. His threats of keeping her in a locked cell for his dark demented toy left her so afraid she could only shiver.

She prayed hard to her mother and the gems in the sachet remained tightly against her. While they started on their way to the Mcleod Castle she had to have a plan. Her mother once told her that theses gems held a magic that nobody would believe, but if she ever needed them she shouldn't hesitate to use them.

This was as good as time as any. They were rounding a cliff when Medora took the gems and tossed them out the window without saying a word. She kept her prayers strong that someone would save her. Within minutes and blue glow shot upwards from the ground, covering the masses of mountain with a haze.

A black beauty of a stallion stood in front of the carriage stopping it from going any further. He was majestic, but the rider was ever more so. He was tall and his face covered in cloth. A sword so big and shiny it cast a gleam on rocks. Men tried to get off of the carriage to fight him to his death but the soldier didn't even have to move to cast them off the trail into the hollow of the lands.

Medora remained shocked and overwhelmed. She had no idea what those gems were but her Mother must have held some sort of magic.

“Come with me Medora. You will be safe and I will watch over you. Your mother sent me.”

“My mother is dead. How could she have sent you?” She was mesmerized by his handsome features. His eyes so blue and his hair so black, his shoulders so strong. Her heart started to beat with a passion she has never felt.

“These are questions I can only answer if you marry me. You have to trust me. Can you do that?”

Before she could answer he placed a kiss on her lips that melted all of her worries away. She knew this was her way to happiness. Her mother had a plan. It was in the stars. Gems from heaven found a true love.
