Black and White Prompt 34/1448 words
She moved into a brand new apartment building and most of her neighbors seemed alright, except the guy in 6A. word count/1448

6A

Well this was it! Robyn took one last look at her room before closing the door. Finally leaving home and starting her own life. For some, twenty-five was too old to be living with mom, but mom needed her. Now she was tucked into her new home with the help she needed. Freedom from responsibility felt like a breath of fresh air. She was very lucky that her friends were willing to help her move and she wouldn't be alone on her first night in a new town.

“Loaded up!” Frank slapped the back of the truck and turned to Robyn, “You are all set little lady. You want to drive in the truck or follow us in your car?”

“I think I will drive the car and let you men handle the truck. I will be right behind you though and Stacey is meeting us there to help unload.”

“Perfect. Let's hit the road shall we?”

On the road it was, and Robyn listened to the radio thinking about her new life ahead of her. She was thankful for Stacey and her offer to stay with her on her first night. Maybe she can get a few things unpacked at least the coffee maker.

It was well into the night before Robyn and her crew unloaded the truck. Some of the tenants peered through their windows to see who the new person was. Walking through the halls to the elevator an older couple smiled and said hello. Robyn thought this was a great place for her to be. Quiet people, mostly elderly. Now she knew for sure there would be plenty of peaceful nights to study.

Her first week was filled with unpacking, grocery shopping and gathering books and supplies to start classes. Her first trimester was an online course and that was fine by her seeing as winter was about to settle in.

“Good morning Robyn. How is the apartment coming along?”

“Fine thank you Mr. Wells.”

“Have a great day.”

Robyn unlocked her door with a smile. As she was about to open her door she heard a strange sound coming from the apartment across the hall. She also found it odd that who ever lived there never once came out to greet her. Apartment 6A was occupied by the unknown. Robyn shrugged it off but she also made sure her door was double bolted. Her eyes lingered on the door of 6A for over a minute before she completely locked herself in.

Once settled in for the night, Robyn was just about to close the curtains to her bedroom when she looked outside and saw someone leave the building dressed in a dark cloak. Even under the street light she couldn't make out a face. Now she couldn't sleep at all. She laid there listening for anything out of the ordinary. She heard a car door shut and jumped out of bed. Looking out the corner of her window she saw that person in the cloak again. Nothing was said as he walked to the door of the building. Now Robyn didn't have a choice but to go to her door and peak through the rusty hole. His boots tapped each step and shuffled to his door. It was as though he knew she was there. He paused before opening his door. Grunted and slightly turned his head her way, but not enough for her to see any features. She jumped back thinking he saw her.

Who is this guy? Should I be afraid of him?

Every night from that day on Robyn saw him leave the building but never during the day. She had never seen him with groceries or bags of any sort. Where does he go? What does he do in there? She felt now she would ask around. Some one must know something about him.

“Good morning Robyn. How was your weekend?” Mr. Wells was such a sweet man. Always a daily greeting with a smile.

“It was okay, thanks. Quiet.” She then pondered the question of 6A. “Umm.. can I ask you something Mr. Wells?”

“Sure you can. Not sure if this old brain of mine could answer but give me a shot.” He chuckled and almost felt embarrassed.

“Well I was wondering about the person living in 6A. I hear noises that seem odd. I see someone leaving every night and coming back just before morning. Yet I never see him if that makes any sense? He doesn't buy anything, never comes out. What is wrong with him?”

Mr. Wells looked at her oddly and with question. “My dear, nobody lives in that apartment. It's a brand new building. Vacant still."

Robyn felt like a bolt of lightening went through her. She did see someone there. Every night for a couple of weeks now. It wasn't her imagination.

“I see. So this person I see every night is who? The owner of the building?”

“Can't be. The owner live out of town. His nephew takes care of everything but he doesn't live in the building. I don't know what you eat before bed sweetie but maybe stick to a warm glass of milk.” Mr. Wells continued his walk out the door. Leaving Robyn standing there feeling foolish. Now she was intrigued and spooked.
Robyn felt like Nancy Drew but she had to figure this out. So that night she decided to wait and follow him. She waited for him to leave as usual and give it a moment or two before she headed out the door. She dressed in her hoodie and hid her face while the figure in front of her moved in a draped cloak. He was like a shadow in the night. She hid between trees and lamp posts being sure he wouldn't see her. Heading towards the under part of the city through a cemetery, Robyn thought she was nuts and should probably turn around at this point.

Curiosity got the best of her though and she continued. He opened a gate with a key he had it seemed but didn't close it behind him. She remained quiet and was thankful she wore her sketchers. They were like slippers, light on the feet.
Suddenly taken aback by noise, Robyn remained still, trying to grasp the words that echoed in a tunnel.

“NOOOOOOOOOOO! No more! I don't want you here anymore! You can't keep doing this! I said I was sorry, what more can I say?”

That is when she heard his voice. It sounded normal, subtle and confident.

“Yes you said you were sorry but that isn't enough. I am the one who says it is enough! I will come back as often as it takes. Maybe for eternity. You have no idea who you are dealing with. Do you even know where you are? You are in hell my friend and there is no end.”

Robyn gasped and turned back. She couldn't believe what she heard. That night was painfully scary and now she had to figure out how to get him out of the building or she was moving.

The following morning she poured a coffee and felt hung over from lack of sleep. As she sipped her coffee she hear a lot of noise in the hallway. Looking through her eye hole she saw that 6A was open! People were moving in! How could this be? She hurried and dressed and acted nonchalantly as she walked out her door. The most handsome guy almost walked right into her.

“Good Morning Miss..? Sorry I should know your name. I mean I do own this place.”

“You do? Are the owner's nephew?”

“No no.. I bought the building from them. I figure why not move in and save a bit of money."

The guy laughed and the he spoke the more she recognized the voice. Could it be?

" I am a bit of a night owl so if you don't see me much in the day I'm sleeping. The night is my time. I can get my best work done in the dark.”

Robyn turned to leave, feeling confused.

“It was nice seeing you Robyn. I'm sure we will meet up again real soon.”

How did he know my name?
