Dark Poetry Poem Prompt: Monsters are Real Sestina form Word Count: 369 Eerie sounds in the night bring alarm The noises of the darkness sound so scary Monsters are real, though their sounds may be invisible Sometimes from my bed, I can hear a low growling Is it a gruesome howl, or an area of grey Loud sounds, low sounds, sounds all around Monsters can appear when no one is around Ghouls in a dream can set off thoughts of alarm Colorful dream scenes might turn to grey Sweet slumbers manifest into something scary Mewing kittens and yipping puppies are now growling Ghastly creatures suddenly appear after being invisible What is that smell, is it gas that's invisible It seems to penetrate the air all around I know it's a monster because I can hear it growling It's not a house gas, since I hear no alarm The scent is of evil darkness, making it's appearance more scary I am beginning to detect the hint of shadowy grey The monsters aren't easy to see, when the night already looks so grey They blend in so well, almost being completely invisible I wish the night could be bright, and not shadows so scary Shadows blend into each other, the more I look around Watching and listening, the silence is as loud as an alarm My heart quickens as I hear the sound of a neighbor's dog growling Chilling noises in my head..Screams shrieking, boards creaking, and wolves growling The hairs on my arms stand on edge, and my skin turns grey Something touches my arm, and I jump in alarm I feel a grabbing at my ankle, but the being is invisible There's no one here, though loneliness is around The Spooky sensations I'm feeling are nothing less than scary The noises of the darkness still sound so scary All this time, I can still hear a low growling Loud sounds, low sounds, sounds all around Is it really a gruesome howl, or an area of grey Monsters are real, though their sounds may be invisible Eerie sounds in the night always bring alarm Scary monsters are real, sound the alarm If you hear a growling, know that the monsters are around Remember they can be invisible in the shadows of grey |
