if I could be anything,
I would love to be
someone important
in the feline family

for I’d attempt to purr
while I’d rave and stir
in a brave lion’s pit, or
sprint like a jaguar, or
dash like a puma or
strut like a black panther
in my silk ebony suit or
a huge Siberian tiger
with soulful eyes, but
not behind metal bars

yet, the best I could be
would be a tabby kitten to slink
between two stringy legs
that don’t mind being bitten
and if so, I’d be
a pure hero, snoozing
on a lofty lap or meow
to answer you, on the go.
