House of Black and White Prompt 26, w.c. 358
26. He's been contemplating about his future, when he saw his past walk by.

[w.c.358]

Mark sat on the stone wall, deep in thought. He had grown old too fast and had a choice to make. Hold on to the woman he loved no matter how deeply her life decayed or cut loose the person who had become a stone around his neck. He berated himself for wanting the trophy wife rather than someone who would love him no matter what.
He took another bite from his sandwich and watched the people in the park. He knew he was at odds with his surroundings, wearing a business suit when all others sitting on this wall were in jeans and t-shirts, but he had long since given up on caring.
There was his future. An old man, sitting on a park bench feeding pigeons. That man did not look up, did not acknowledge anyone who sat beside him. He just keep breaking bread off the loaf and throwing with all his might trying to hit them on the head. That man would smirk every time his aim hit true. So did Mark.
There was his wish. A tall blonde woman exuding health and vitality. That’s the politically correct term he now used to keep his lustful eye out of trouble in the work place. Health and vitality. That’s the ticket. He salivated for a one way ticket. He should get up and follow her around that bend, but that would take more effort than he cared to exert.
There was his reality. A woman sitting on a park bench, surveilling the people, then, raising a brown paper bag to her lips. She would pull it away, lean back and cradle her treasure until she needed more.
There was his past. A man with a receding hairline was walking toward him with his head leaned in to hear the quip coming from the lips of his supermodel lady friend…no, there was the ring … his wife. He would lean his head back and chuckle, then look around to see who admired his trophy. Mark caught his eye and nodded. As they strolled by Mark said, “Good luck.” They smiled a thank you and continued on.
