during my morning run, I saw
a cat, a dog, and a lizard
my huge body they didn’t mind
hoping I could be a wizard

wrapped in my handkerchief and fist
kibbles I threw as I passed by
the cat meowed at this mindless gift
thought, possibly not a wizard

the dog wagged his tail and then growled
the lizard paused and looked bemused
they felt betrayed by need for proof
and rejected me as a wizard
