Flash Fiction Story Prompt: It isn't necessarily dangerous.. Word Count: 215 "It isn't necessarily dangerous, but I hope he survives." "Hmmm, I don't see how he'll make it through this." was the reply. "I saw him before, and, well, he's not looking good, to put it mildly." Dave blurted out but chewed his lip in regret. "Darn." The other man slapped the table. "How did this happen? He's always been a bright, happy, energetic." "Mark! Don't beat yourself up over this. Life never always goes the way we plan." Mark was quiet for a minute or two. Dave sipped his coffee but watched his friend intently. Finally, Mark spoke again. "We worry about our kids. We do whatever we can for them. It's hard to see them in a shape like this." "I know. It's going to be alright. You'll see. Have some faith, Mark." "You're right." Mark, forced a smile, though his brows still scrunched in worry. He looked at his watch. "Okay, it's time. My boy is about to give his valedictory speech. We have to go." Both men got up from the table. "He has Hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia, the fear of long words." Dave began, as he gently patted Mark on the back. "I'm sure he'll survive the speech he wrote. He put it together in a less formal and fun way. He'll be fine." |
