through the house

I was told this evening happiness has a voice but despair has none. Do you agree or disagree? Can we really have one without the other?

The Song of Happiness versus the Screech of Despair

I hear the song of happiness,
a nightingale warbling
in my soul.

Its song rains down on my mind
and scatters
the screech of despair.

the nightingale's melody
falls from the roses of paradise
carrying their scent to me.

A Fireplace

In the fireplace of my spirit,
burns the fire of hope,
faith,
and love.

I sit beside the fire,
listening
to their crackling flames
burn away
despair and fear
from the logs of happiness.
