Flames Flicker

Flames flicker--
politicians manipulate
the minds of their constituents,
and exploit their xenophobia
until the wax of their freedom
becomes a small puddle of gooey liquid
at the feet of insatiable tyrants.

Flames flicker--
unrealized power percolates
at the grass roots of civilization
where one square acre
of dissatisfaction can ignite
a conflagration that will consume
a rainforest of tyrants.

Flames flicker--
invite the grass roots to unite,
to become a rose garden of multicolored blossoms
before the flames of prejudice and hate
become a holocaust destroying the planet.
