What feelings can openings inspire? It could be any kind of an opening: a Christmas present, a gift, a book, a flower, a new play on stage, the opening notes of a musical piece, the opening of a lecture, etc.

Openings and New Beginnings

Openings are learning experiences,
new beginning,
new adventures,
finding new friends,
or any other positive experience.

Under the New Year tree
are twelve gifts
that you open
one month at a time.

Sometimes the gift of the month
contains a toy you wanted,
sometimes it contains an item
you never wanted
and could probably do without,
and at other times
it contains a pair of socks
or something else you need,
but did not want as a gift.

So,
open each month's gift
with a smile on your face,
and try not to frown
when it is something you
did not want
or thought you did not need.
