Who was the "son of perdition?" In John 17:12, Judas Iscariot was named, by Jesus, as "the son of perdition." He, knowingly, betrayed Christ. What does "son of perdition" mean? This term has been translated: "son of destruction." "The" anti-christ, is known as the "son of perdition" and/or "son of lawlessness." One who knows the Truth, but rejects Him. [Jesus is The Way, The Truth, and The Life----and He hath said, No man comes to the Father, but by Me. -John 14:6] per·di·tion [pərˈdiSHən] (in Christian theology) a state of eternal punishment and damnation into which a sinful and unpenitent person passes after death. synonyms: damnation, eternal punishment; hell, hellfire, doom When the Holy Spirit---the Spirit of Jesus Christ---deals with us and we reject Him, there comes a time when we are susceptible of moving beyond repentance. In other words, we are no longer sensitive to Him, His calling. He says, My Spirit will not always strive with man. [See Genesis 6:3.] Though He is not willing that any should perish, but that all would come to the saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ, repent (turn from their sin) and come to (accept) Him as Lord and Savior. Let's pray: God, today, we choose You---we willingly (as an act of our will) turn from sin, and ask that You forgive us our sin, have mercy on us and show us (reveal to us) Your Salvation! The scripture: "Submit yourself to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you" is resounding. [Read James 4:7-10.] Today, if you hear His voice, harden not your heart, as in the provocation. -Hebrews 3:15 [Read the entire chapter---Hebrews 3.] To those who overcome: They have conquered him (the evil one) by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; and they did not love their lives so as to shy away from death. -Revelation 12:11 |
