Freaky Friday: Grotesque Scars

On Freaky Friday
the grotesque scars of terror
reverberate across the planet.

I contemplate the date,
it is neither Friday the Thirteenth
nor Halloween;
so what is causing this
insidious soul shattering anxiety
echoing across Earth.

What could account for
the trepidation
I see in the eyes
of every person I encounter.

I check the paper,
and the only explanation
I can find
is the free floating dread
that blackmails
the human mind,
when confronted with
an uncontrollable situation.

Hit with a multitude
of unmanageable variables
the seeds of doubt grow
and multiply,
until the individual
begins looking for an escape route.

However,
there is no escape.

Nothing,
not even a boat
the size of Noah's Ark
can save a species
divided against itself.

Humanity's salvation
is in its acceptance of
unity.
