Spring brings two celebrations that I enjoy every year. The first is Naw-Ruz, which falls on the first day of spring. The second is Ridvan, which is celebrated from April 21 to May 2. Naw-Ruz is the Baha'i New Year, and the Twelve Days of Ridvan celebrate the Declaration of Baha'u'llah. The "Blogging Circle of Friends " prompt for DAY 1959 Prompt: March 28 is Weed Appreciation Day . A loose definition of a weed is a plant that grows any place people don't want it to grow. Some common weeds that our ancestors ate, and some people today eat: chickweed, mallow, wild amaranth, curly dock, chicory, clover, dandelion, purslane, lamb's quarters, and plantain (No, this isn't the tropical fruit.). Pick a weed and use it in a poem or story. Or write something about the weeds in your yard. I no longer have a yard, so I don't have to worry about weeds. Not that I worried about them when I had a yard. I worried about having to money to pay someone to take care of the yard and the weeds, but I didn't worry about the weeds themselves. I had all sorts of blooming weeds in the yard on Bracken.I had small weeds that you be removed by cutting or digging, and I had huge weeds (Oleanders), that I had to find someone to trim a couple of times in the spring or summer. I consider Oleanders weeds because the grew without any assistance from fertilizers or water. Oleanders don't grow as fast without rain, but they still grow. |
