We Are Not Alone

Entry two of ten for "The Bard's Hall Contest" .

Question of the Day found on "Question of the Day!" :
Do you believe in extraterrestrial life?
Would you find more comfort in the theoretical idea
that we were the most advanced species in outer space or
would you find more comfort in the idea that we weren’t?

Do I believe in extraterrestrial life? Yes! I'm not sure when I began believing that humanity wasn't alone in the universe. I don't know whether I believed it before I started reading science fiction of after. I suspect that this belief was already seed in my soul before I could read anything. I know that the belief grew over the years, and came to fruition after I became a Baha'i. When I read the following scripture revealed by Baha'u'llah any doubt I may have had wilted and died like a weed pulled up from its roots.

"Know thou that every fixed star hath its own planets, and every planet its own creatures, whose number no man can compute."
Bahá’u’lláh1

It's comforting knowing that other creatures exist on the planets orbiting other stars. It's comforting knowing that some of the life on other planets are probably sentient and possess souls that will ascend into spiritual world when their bodies die. It's comforting knowing that eventually the proof of life on other planets will be discovered. I wrote a poem in 2017 called "Is Anybody Out There?" , which I placed in "Bicentenary Poems and Prose" . After rereading that poem, I think I need to compose another poem titled "We Are Not Alone."
