"May I speak with Krista Millar." A dowdy voice droned over the phone.

"Speaking," she said trying to ignore the spike of panic that bolted through her whenever the called asked for her by her full name.

"I am calling on behalf of the Prentice Group."

"hmmm .” She acknowledged noncommittally.

"Mrs. Millar we are calling in accordance with your husband's account...."

"My husband's account?"

"Yes, Mr. George Millar of 34 Sinclair Avenue." Krista listened to the rest of the details all of which sounded legitimate.

"Okay, yes, that is my husband, but what is this about?"

"Well, Mrs. Millar we just wanted to let you know that a large withdrawal has been made to his account...."

"Oh..."

"We are required to inform a spouse if an account is subjected to such a large withdrawal...”

"I was not aware of such an account. Can I ask how much was withdrawn?"

The woman stated a sum that had Krista sinking down into a chair.

"There must be some mistake. My husband is an accountant with Winchester Williams. He does not make that kind of money..."

"His account has been earmarked because of its size, we would like to speak with him."

"Oh, my..."

"It is part of our protocol."

"Protocol." Krista echoed.

"Yes, we have reason to believe.... the money may not be hard earned."

"My husband is the most honest man I know." Krista roused herself to fling out.

"Yes, but you did not know about the account."

That had her wondering.

"And the account was emptied last Thursday..."

"Last Thursday." She parroted.

"Do have him call us."

"I will... when he gets back from his guy’s weekend."

"You are aware that it’s Tuesday?" the woman stated. "Do these guy weekends extend into the week?"

"Sometimes."

"Well, have him call."
