Festival of Kumquats
Festival of Kumquats
The town was festooned with green and orange globes. Quentin put on mismatched earrings in their honor and decided to join in. Everyone was gay except for the King... who frowned then slowly slunk away. Quentin was puzzled but soon distracted by the numerous contests: best jam, best marmalade, best tea, even best bonsai. By afternoon the crowd was boisterous as 12 women parted the crowd bearing the throne. They immediately hushed when they put it down and drew their daggers. It was time to sacrifice the King to insure a good season of kumquats next year. But where was the King? Every looked around; he was nowhere to be found. Finally one child pointed toward the sea. There they saw one lone man in a dinghy decked with a crown, waving, oaring himself swiftly away.
