String of Pearls

String of Pearls

A string of pearls,
broken
scattered on the sidewalk.

A little boy and his mother walk by,
the little boy bent down
to pick up some of the pearls.

"Look, Mama, see what I found.
Can I pick them up and keep them."

"Yes," said the mother,
"they are just loose,
what are you going to do with them?"

"I'm going to put them on a string
and wear them around my neck."
