Birth of a Poem1

Sometimes,
the verses are born
fully formed ready to
be written in black words on white paper.

Most time,
I see their conception,
nurture them through the embryonic stage
and bring them forth into reality.

Today I am thankful...
          ...for the Christmas cookies I had to go with my coffee this morning.
          ...that my Bank of America checking account is not overdrawn today.
          ...for the vegetable omelet and apple juice I had for lunch.
          ...that I have 4,226,612 GPs in my Gift Points account.
          ...for the Chili dogs we had for supper.
