How Blogging Has Changed Me - 30DBC
Two decades of blogging. You'd think a person would run out of things to say. But I haven't, as evidenced by my two blogs, which are regularly updated. I used to blog every day but now I just find as long as I blog weekly I'm happy. And I find my blog posts are always better if I have a topic in mind when I start. Blogging just to blog is not my style. I only blog when I have something worthwhile or important to say.

Many thanks to Emily Author IconMail Icon for the great prompt and for the shout out from the Blogging Bliss feature. That was a fun trip down memory lane for me and I was astonished at how many blogs there are. I knew there were a lot but geez. If you haven't had a chance to read the article, go to

As for how blogging has changed me, I like to think it's made me a better person. That's a pretty tall expectation for blogging but it's true. Blogging has given me an outlet for some of the negative things that have impacted my life, given me an audience to talk about it with, and lastly, given me some peace. Two decades ago when I started blogging, I wasn't in touch with my emotions at all. Now, I'm very in touch with my emotions, which has given me more emotional intelligence. Being an incest survivor, you become adept at shoving emotions away and not feeling them. It takes time, effort, and healing to undo that, and my blogs have allowed me to do that. Therapy helped but ultimately, the hard work has all been done on a page like this one - where I'm sharing my thoughts and perspective with others. And sometimes even the simplest posts can hold a lot of meaning.

Another user suggested the optimal blog post to be 2000 words. I am not so sure about that. My average blog post is about 500-800 words. If you're doing a feature or something maybe that works. However, today's audience has an average six second attention span. If you're a fast reader, you can read 500-800 words in a minute or two. So that's what I stick to for my blogs.
