UN International Day in Support of Victims of Torture

Today, June 26, is the UN International Day in Support of Victims of Torture. According to the article Join the UN International Day in Support of Victims of Torture   by David Langness, the United Nations injunction against torture is a “customary international law,”1 which means it is intended to apply to all nations that are affiliated with the internal community; even those that didn't sign the treaty against torture.

Torture, like genocide, is a crime against humanity. It's a crime that affect the minds and souls of both the victim and the perpetrator. The resolution was adopted on December 10, 1984, and went into force on June 26, 1987.2 Every year, on June 26, the UN International Day in Support of Victims of Torture is proclaimed “with a view to the total eradication of torture and the effective functioning of the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment.”3
