St John's Wort - Deliberate Design

St John's Wort

There is a pariah
that must be dispelled
or at least controlled.
It shows up unwelcome
each year
and flourishes in fertile fields,
previously tilled and prepped
in deliberate design
for finer stuff.
The repetition
of malaise
encountered with its return
freezes action.
My inner sloth
glories in its monotony.
I must pound down
its hold on me,
put on my boots
and take up the battle
one more time.
